iPhotoCult
iPhotoCult aims to enhance Cultural Heritage (CH) preservation with innovative, non-invasive tools for inspection, documentation, diagnosis, and monitoring. It integrates advanced diagnostic tools, intelligent data processing, and visualization software to support remote or on-site CH monitoring. This project empowers CH stakeholders to make cost-effective, reliable, and sustainable preservation decisions by providing user-friendly, efficient solutions. Through European pilot projects, iPhotoCult’s solutions will be tested and optimized, offering insights for replication in diverse settings. By leveraging advanced photonics and software, iPhotoCult supports sustainable management and preservation of Europe’s CH.

NERITES
Systematic autonomous remote surveying of underwater cultural heritage monuments and artefacts using non-destructive, cost-effective and transportable digital solutions
Underwater cultural heritage monuments and artefacts require advanced surveying techniques. Digitalisation facilitates systematic, autonomous, and remote surveying. The EU-funded NERITES project will use autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), unmanned surface vehicles (BUOYs), and remote-operated vehicles (ROVs) for the remote monitoring and chemical mapping of underwater heritage sites. A swarm of self-coordinated AUVs will monitor, survey, and scan the heritage sites to identify degradation and monitor the state of the surrounding underwater site. BUOYs will collect and analyse raw AUV information and be equipped with renewable solar collectors to ensure continuous power availability. Meanwhile, supervisors/users will be stationed remotely onshore for periodic mission lifecycle management and a general overview of the system situation.

Novel technologies for on-site and remote collaborative enriched monitoring to detect structural and chemical damages in cultural heritage assets
In the face of escalating threats to Europe’s cultural heritage from climate change and conflicts, the EU-funded ChemiNova project aims to revolutionise conservation practices with an intelligent computational system. By addressing structural and chemical damage caused by climate change and civil conflicts, ChemiNova stands out for its inclusive approach. Unlike traditional devices, its technology ensures accessibility for all, engaging local communities through citizen science. The project not only pioneers novel monitoring methods, but also actively involves heritage practitioners and non-experts, making conservation a collaborative effort for a resilient cultural legacy. What sets ChemiNova apart is its commitment to inclusivity since the technology is designed for universal accessibility.

GoGreen
GREEN STRATEGIES TO CONSERVE THE PAST AND PRESERVE THE FUTURE OF CULTURAL HERITAGE
Existing tools and methods to conserve heritage are not always sustainable. The EU-funded GoGreen project seeks to rectify this by targeting conservation practices that are based on green principles. To do this, it will develop damage functions that facilitate environmental control in collections; produce green treatment methods for remedial conservation; adopt innovative techniques and benchmark methods to analyse materials and methods; and build an app and a decision model for conservators to use in remedial conservation treatments. GoGreen will work together with scholars and socio-economists to ensure its tools and methods generate results for everyone’s benefit and for the European Green Deal – a set of policy initiatives that target a climate-neutral EU by 2050.
